Field of Dreams: if you build it, they will come!

I would like to associate myself with recent comments by Bishop Edwin Barnes and Fr Michael Gollop, softening earlier comments on the proposed Society of St Wilfrid and St Hilda. While I continue to think that this will not prove to be a long-term solution to present difficulties, I wish well to those who want to give it a try. In the end, we all long for the unity of Christ’s Church, as he (and not we) wishes it. For some of us, the imperative of responding to the invitation of Peter’s successor is clear; for others, the desirability of a further effort to rescue the CofE from drifting in a still more liberal and non-Catholic direction remains a priority. We must not denigrate those whose priorities differ from our own, there must be no lessening of charity towards our friends who for the moment take another path.

As long as the Ordinariate is allowed a fair wind as it sets sail, the SSWSH can equally be given a fair wind. Each of these movements will have a better chance if it is given the moral support of the other, against those who would like both of them to sink.
